Description
56-58 High Street in Peebles is a house and shop likely built in the early to mid-19th century. It is a two-storey, two-bay structure with a shop on the ground floor and a pend, along with a larger gabled building at the rear. The exterior is constructed of whinstone rubble, with the facade rendered and lined to mimic ashlar stone, and features ashlar dressings. There is a raised angle margin on the outer right side.
On the front elevation, there is a timber shopfront on the right with a tall fascia and fittings for awnings. To the left, there is a pend doorway with chamfered reveals. The first floor has one single window, and there is a small cast-iron rooflight.
The rear elevation consists of a four-bay, two-storey gabled building that is at right angles to the front block. The windows are plate glass timber sash and case. The roof is covered with rosemary tiles and features a gable stack on the left side with a thack stane.
The interior was not seen in 1994.
