Description

The Veitch Memorial, located on High Street in Peebles, was designed by Sydney Mitchell and Wilson in 1898. This pale pink granite monument honors the poet John Veitch. It features a square pedestal that displays a cast bronze portrait profile of Veitch on one side. The pedestal supports a bulbous column, which has acanthus leaves at its base and a Roman Doric capital. The column is adorned with copper garlands and cherubs, and it is topped with a bronze lion rampant that holds a shield displaying the Town crest. The memorial also has a marble base with rounded angles and grey granite panels.
