41 High Street, Peebles

43 High Street in Peebles is a three-storey, four-bay tenement building dating from 1897, located on a corner site and featuring two shops on the ground floor. The building showcases Scottish 17th century detailing, including a corner turret.

The northeast elevation is constructed of squared snecked and stugged cream sandstone ashlar, accented with polished ashlar dressings. It features moulded architraves, a cill course at the second floor, and swept corners. The turret at the eastern corner is corbelled out at both the first and second floors, with three windows on each floor, a cornice, and a conical roof topped with a wrought-iron weathervane finial. The western corner is corbelled to a square at the second floor. The original three-bay timber shopfronts are delicate and glazed, with set-back central glazed doors, plate glass windows, panelled aprons, pilaster divides between the shops, and a plain fascia and cornice. The first-floor windows are corniced, with the central window featuring a pediment. The second-floor windows break the eaves and have gabled dormerheads, with the central window also pedimented and flanked by gableheads that display dated and monogrammed MB shields.

The eastern elevation is finished with white painted render and black painted ashlar margins, similar to the adjoining Tontine Hotel. It has a gable to the right with an apex stack and two irregular bays to the left, featuring a bipartite window at ground level and single windows above. The elevation is topped with a balustraded parapet adorned with ball finials.

The building has timber sash and case plate glass windows, grey-green slate roofing, ashlar-coped skews, and coped ashlar-dressed stacks. The interior was not seen in 1994.
