Description

The War Memorial, designed by architect C F A Voysey, was completed in 1919. It is a free-standing column made of Portland stone. The base, shaft, and capital of the memorial are octagonal with concave sides. The capital features leaf carving and is topped with a carving of a pelican feeding its young. The surrounding pavement and steps are made of slate.
