Description

The building at 181 and 183 Wells Road dates from the early to mid-19th century and was formerly listed as number 183, The Manse. It is a two-story building rendered in stucco, with a hipped slate roof and wide eaves. The ground floor is rusticated, and a plain band runs along the cill level. Plain pilasters divide the first floor of the main block into three bays. There are three 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars, each set within a moulded, shouldered architrave. Two ground floor windows are set in shallow, cambered recesses. A central, round-headed doorway features a reeded architrave surround, a panelled door, and an arched fanlight. A portico with a flat entablature is supported by two columns with carved capitals. A single-window wing is set back slightly to the right, and a two-window wing extends to the left. These wings are in a similar style but lack pilasters, and are not rusticated. The wing to the right has an additional, modern window. The building is now divided into three flats.
