Description

The Congregational War Memorial, dating from around 1920, is made of Portland Stone and was relocated and refurbished in the late 1990s. It features a square pedestal with integral corner columns and arches, gabled on all four sides, each topped with a renewed pinnacle. At the center, there is an octagonal base and a tapered shaft that rises to a fleur terminal. The monument is set on an offsetting plinth. Each face of the memorial has incised and painted lettering that records the names of 27 men who lost their lives in the conflict. Originally, the memorial was situated in front of the former Congregational Church, which is now a United Reformed Church.
