Description
The stables at Abbey Park on High Street in Melrose date from around 1820 and are designed in a Classical style. This two-storey building has three bays on its west front, with the center bay protruding and featuring a pediment. The ground floor has a large four-centre arched opening that has been blocked as a window, and an additional window has been inserted in the right-hand bay at ground level. There is an oval opening in the pediment, and the roof is piended and slated.
To the east, there is a range that was originally three bays deep, with a fourth bay that is advanced, which has since been extended to double its length. This section also has a piended slated roof. The north side of the property features a courtyard that is enclosed by a boundary wall, which includes a rectangular single-storey lodge at the entrance from St Mary's Road. This lodge is constructed of coursed squared rubble, has a piended slated roof, and its windows are topped with sloping hoods.
