Description
Harmony House, located on St Mary's Road in Melrose, was built in 1807 with later additions. This two-storey building features a basement and attic, with a three-bay front facing south. The central bay is advanced and has a pedimented entrance at the ground floor, which is approached by steps and includes a projecting porch supported by Ionic columns. The entrance door is flanked by sidelights and topped with a segmental arched fanlight. The first-floor window is tripartite. The house has a wallhead cornice and blocking course, with rusticated quoins at the corners. It has a piended roof with a pair of rectangular corniced stacks at the ridge and a central piended dormer in the attic. The south front is constructed of coursed squared whinstone with freestone dressings, while the flanks and rear are made of coursed squared rubble. At the rear, two wings were added on either side of a projecting bow, with the northeast wing being taller and featuring a castellated parapet.
The garden walls are tall and made of rubble, topped with flagged coping. There are a pair of corniced piers with wooden gates to the east.
