Description
The Head Post Office on Buccleuch Street in Melrose was built by the HM Office of Works between 1901 and 1902. This single-storey building is designed in the Free Renaissance style and constructed from snecked rubble with polished dressings. It features an off-centre door topped by an oculus and a semi-circular pediment, which integrates into a balustrade at the wall head. The building has a mullioned tripartite window in an advanced bay, with single windows in the outer bays. The roof is piended and slated, with a central rectangular chimney stack at the ridge.
