Fern Cottage, South Street, Gavinton

Fern Cottage is an early 19th century, low single-storey, three-bay cottage that has undergone later alterations and additions. It features a modern monopitch projection to the south from the east. The exterior is finished in painted render, with the later projection harled.

On the north elevation facing South Street, there is a window in the right bay. The south elevation has a boarded door at the center flanked by windows in each bay, with a small window in the left bay. There is also a window on the return west elevation of the projection on the outer right.

The cottage has 8- and 4-pane timber sash and case windows, along with a modern window in the projection. The roof is slate, with thick, irregular, and graded slates on the south side, smooth later slates on the north side featuring a diamond pattern at the center, and a modern projection. There is a brick wallhead stack on the east side and a rendered wallhead stack on the west side.

The interior was not seen in 1995.
