Description

Circa 1900. Imposing Edwardian villa in Tudor Revival style,

with Scots Renaissance detailing at parapetted entrance

bay of eastern angle. Basically 2-storey and attic.

Asymmetrical elevations with variety of mullioned and

transomed windows, including canted, bowed and square

-projecting window-bays on ground floor, and shallow-curved

oriel at first floor (SW elevation, right gabled bay). Bay

windows have heavy plain parapets. Low, steep slate roof,

broad bracketted eaves, and studded bargeboarded gables

and dormer gablets. Sash and case glazing. Snecked and

polished sandstone ashlar. Entrance in 3-sided corner bay

at SE angle treated like semi-polygonal turret; steps and

splayed scroll walls lead to simple rectangular door opening;

large round scroll consoles support balcony above; free strapwork-derived ornament below a pierced semi-circular

pediment and finial which rise above a corniced and

balustraded parapet. Canted timber dormer perched behind.

INTERIOR: wainscotted entrance hall; inlaid carved detail

to staircase newels; plain panelled plaster ceilings.
