Description
Scotscraig, located on Park Road in Paisley, is an impressive Edwardian villa built around 1900 in the Tudor Revival style, featuring Scots Renaissance details at the parapetted entrance bay on the eastern angle. The building is primarily two stories with an attic and has asymmetrical elevations that showcase a variety of mullioned and transomed windows. These include canted, bowed, and square projecting window bays on the ground floor, as well as a shallow-curved oriel window on the first floor of the southwest elevation's right gabled bay. The bay windows are topped with heavy plain parapets. The villa has a low, steep slate roof with broad bracketed eaves, studded bargeboarded gables, and dormer gablets. It features sash and case glazing and is constructed from snecked and polished sandstone ashlar.
The entrance is located in a three-sided corner bay at the southeast angle, designed to resemble a semi-polygonal turret. Steps with splayed scroll walls lead to a simple rectangular door opening. Above the entrance, large round scroll consoles support a balcony, which is adorned with free strapwork-derived ornament beneath a pierced semi-circular pediment and finial that rise above a corniced and balustraded parapet. A canted timber dormer is positioned behind the balcony.
Inside, the villa features a wainscotted entrance hall, staircase newels with inlaid carved detail, and plain panelled plaster ceilings.
