Description

St Margaret's is a Baronial-style house located on Park Road in Paisley, dated 1879 and designed by architect John Hutchison. This two-storey and attic building features snecked and stugged ashlar with polished dressings. The east elevation has an irregular three-bay front, with a drum angle tower on the left and a bartizan with a conical roof on the right. The outer bays are gabled; the left bay includes a round-headed doorpiece with cable moulding, a corbelled oriel window on the first floor, and an attic window with a cornice. The right bay features a canted window spanning two storeys, which is corbelled to a square at the attic. The angle tower is corbelled to the attic and has stylised gunloops and a gabletted dormer that rises through the eaves of the conical slate roof. There is carved decoration above the attic windows and the central ground floor bipartite window. Other elevations have been affected by later additions. The south elevation has an advanced wallhead stack with a date panel. The slate roofs have crowstepped skews, a bold wallhead, and central stacks. The interior has been significantly altered, but a fine banister and stained glass in the hall, along with some plasterwork on the ceilings and mouldings, remain.
