Grammar School, Church Hill, Paisley

The Grammar School on Church Hill in Paisley was built in 1802, with later additions planned by Robert Barr. This two-storey building features an attic and a basement and was originally constructed as a school. It is made of squared rubble with ashlar dressings, including long and short angle quoins and a band course above the basement. The building has seven ground floor sash windows, with the central window replacing the original entrance, and five first floor sash windows, all of which are margined. The first floor windows have eight panes each. There is an eaves band and cornice, and the slate roof has lowered end stacks along with three later dormers, two of which are canted. To the right, there is a one-storey extension over the basement, similarly detailed, featuring two two-pane sashes and a piended slate roof. At the rear, a deeply projecting rounded rubble stair tower contains the entrance.
