Description
The Walled Garden at Murie House likely dates from the early to mid 19th century. It features a large, rectangular layout with a central dividing wall.
The north and northeast walls are constructed of flat ashlar-coped red brick, with a pedestrian door located at the center of the north wall. The south, southeast, and southwest walls are made of coped rubble. The northwest wall is built from flat ashlar-coped rubble, with droved ashlar margins framing a pedestrian entrance. The east-west dividing wall is also flat ashlar-coped rubble.
At the center of the west wall, there are gatepiers made of flat-coped square-section ashlar, featuring a base for a finial on the south pier and a fallen obelisk finial on the north pier.
There are ancillary buildings, including a small rectangular-plan, slated, two-storey structure, possibly an apple house, located to the north of the center of the west wall. This building has a gablehead stack and a weathervane finial on the south side, a small gablehead opening on the north side, and a window that has been converted from a door on the east side, all covered with graded grey slates.
Additionally, there is a semi-derelict lean-to structure located to the south of the dividing wall. This includes a flat-coped rubble screen wall, which may have been a former greenhouse wall, with ashlar dressings. The lean-to rubble structure to the north features small gothic-arched windows and remnants of delicate decorative astragals on the east, northeast, and northwest sides. The interior contains a stone fireplace.
