Description

The Kennels at Errol Park, likely designed by Alexander Johnston between 1875 and 1877, is a single-storey, three-bay classical lodge house. It features narrow stugged coursed ashlar with incised angle pilasters, along with base, eaves, and blocking courses. The entrance has a segmental-headed door with keystoned, architraved openings, bracketted cills, and stone mullions.

On the southeast elevation, the central bay has semicircular steps leading to a canted doorpiece in a re-entrant angle. The deep-set part-glazed timber door is topped with a segmental plate glass fanlight. Each canted angle features narrow lights and relief-carved shields, one depicting an upraised arm holding a sword and the other showing a tree. To the right is a bipartite window, while the left bay has a shallow rectangular-plan projecting bipartite window.

The northeast entrance, facing the drive, has a canted tripartite window in the broad left bay and a single set-back window to the right. The southwest entrance features a slightly projecting full-height chimney breast in the center, with windows in the flanking bays and a lower set-back bay with a modern window to the outer left.

The northwest elevation includes a later lean-to bay with modern glazing in the center. The windows are timber sash and case with a horizontal three-pane glazing pattern, and the narrow lights on the southeast elevation have leaded, coloured glass. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there is a coped and shouldered ashlar stack. Some square-section cast-iron downpipes have decorative fixings.

Additionally, there are rectangular-plan dog kennels made of rubble, featuring slate roofs and three pyramidal ridge ventilators.
