Description

Alexander Johnston of Johnston and Baxter, circa 1870. 2-storey, rectangular-plan, 3-bay gabled villa. Coursers at front, rubble at sides, painted ashlar quoins and dressings, slate roof. 2-storey canted windows at front, swept to square at gablehead, some single windows, all shallowly segmental-headed at 1st floor with plate glass glazing, out-of-keeping uPVC at ground floor; deep eaves, moulded purlin and rafter ends, plain bargeboards, exposed trusses at gables; corniced ridge stacks, most cans similar.

W ELEVATION: panelled door in recessed chamfered doorcase at narrow bay at centre, bracketted gabled canopy with open-work decoration and slate roof, dormerheaded window at 1st floor; slightly advanced gables at left and right; canted windows, stepped band course over ground floor window, pointed recessed panel over 1st floor centre window.

S ELEVATION: window and openings at ground floor right, half-piended single window and canted, jerkin-headed oriel window, each breaking through eaves at 1st floor.

N ELEVATION: window at ground floor left.

E (REAR) ELEVATION: not seen.
