Description

Rosemount, located at 6-8 Forthill Road in Dundee, is a two-storey, rectangular-plan, three-bay gabled villa designed by Alexander Johnston of Johnston and Baxter around 1870. The building features coursed stone at the front and rubble on the sides, with painted ashlar quoins and dressings, and a slate roof. The front elevation includes two-storey canted windows that are squared at the gable head, along with some single windows. All first-floor windows have shallow segmental heads and plate glass glazing, although there are some out-of-keeping uPVC windows at the ground floor. The villa has deep eaves, moulded purlin and rafter ends, plain bargeboards, and exposed trusses at the gables. The ridge stacks are corniced, with most cans being similar.

On the west elevation, there is a panelled door set in a recessed chamfered doorcase at the narrow central bay, topped by a bracketed gabled canopy with open-work decoration and a slate roof. A dormer-headed window is present at the first floor, with slightly advanced gables on the left and right. The canted windows are accompanied by a stepped band course over the ground floor window and a pointed recessed panel above the centre window on the first floor.

The south elevation features a window and openings at the ground floor right, along with a half-piended single window and a canted, jerkin-headed oriel window, both of which break through the eaves at the first floor. The north elevation has a window at the ground floor left. The rear elevation has not been seen, and the interior has also not been observed.
