Forthill Cottage, 17, 19 Hill Street, Broughty Ferry, Dundee

Forthill Cottage, located at 17 and 19 Hill Street in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, is an earlier 19th-century single-storey and basement villa set on sloping ground. It features an irregular plan and showcases a Picturesque style. The exterior is constructed of harled rubble with an unusual vertically laid rock-worked base course, and it has painted angles and margins. The stacks are corniced and moulded. The cottage retains some original lying-pane sash and case windows on the west and north sides, while the windows at number 19, which is the former service block, have out-of-keeping uPVC frames. The building has deep eaves, a shallow pitched roof, and some pagoda finials, with original grey slate cans still in place.

On the southeast elevation, the cottage has a four-bay layout. The entrance bay is set back on the left and features a margined doorpiece with a four-panelled door and fanlight, along with a 12-pane window at the left return gable end. The three bays to the right include a central bay with a single window, flanked by advanced gable ends that have bipartite windows, finials, and stacks at the far left and right return elevations.

The northeast elevation includes an advanced service block on the left with three windows and a piended roof. The three-bay main block is set back on the right, featuring French doors in the centre and flanking gable ends with single windows and finials.

The property is enclosed by a coped rubble boundary wall to the south garden.
