Description
The public fountain at Makerston Place in Largs dates from around 1873 and is made of polished white and red granite. It features a tiered design with a quatrefoil basin sitting on a raised plinth, supported by squat angle columns. The second basin is held up by a solid central column and four banded columns, each with gabled bases and foliated capitals. Above this, a smaller upper basin rests on a banded clustered column. The fountain is inscribed with the words, "The people of Largs to John Campbell for 61 years their beloved physician. Born 1791, died 1873."
