Description

The Post Office on Main Street in Gorebridge is a two-storey building with an attic, constructed in 1879. It features a four-bay terraced design made of coursed tooled sandstone with droved dressings and chamfered reveals.

The northwest elevation, which is the principal front, has a near-symmetrical appearance with a crowstepped gable. It includes a large central window on the ground floor, although the central mullion has been removed. There are replacement timber doors with letterbox fanlights in the flanking bays, and a painted sign located off-center to the left. A doorway is positioned on the outer left, while the first floor has two shouldered windows with cills supported by carved brackets. Above these, a datestone reading "1879" is centered, and there is a round arched keystoned window set in the gablehead, with its cill also supported by carved brackets.

The southwest and northeast elevations are obscured by the adjoining terrace, and the southeast elevation was not visible in 1997. The ground floor features a replacement fixed timber window, while the first floor has four-pane timber sash and case windows, and a two-pane timber sash and case window in the gablehead. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a lead ridge, with cast iron rainwater goods and a central coped polished gablehead stack topped with circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1997.
