Description

34 Hunterfield Road in Gorebridge is an 1888 single-storey, three-bay cottage that has had later additions to the rear. It is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with droved dressings and features chamfered reveals. The eaves overhang and are complemented by plain bargeboards and carved timber finials on the gables.

The southwest elevation is asymmetrical, showcasing an advanced central gabled porch with a raised hoodmould. The porch contains a timber door with a two-pane fanlight above it. To the right of the porch, there is a window with a raised hoodmould, and the porch is flanked by two small windows. On the outer right, there is a gabled bipartite window with a raised hoodmould and a carved datestone that reads "RD 1888" (Robert Dundas) set in the gablehead. To the outer left, there is a window in the advanced gable featuring a pedimented carved panel that bears the illustration and inscription of "Time Flies," also set in the gablehead.

The southeast elevation includes a gabled bay on the left, along with a brick lean-to addition that has a corrugated iron roof, and a flat-roofed addition behind it to the right.

The northeast elevation was not visible in 1997. The northwest elevation has a gable that is offset to the left of center, with a small window featuring a raised hoodmould at the center of the ground level.

The cottage predominantly features two-pane timber sash and case windows. It has a grey slate roof with lead ridges, cast iron rainwater goods, and coped tooled gableheads and ridge stacks with circular and octagonal cans. The interior was not seen in 1997.
