Description

19-21 Main Street in Gorebridge is a traditional terraced house from the later 19th century, featuring two storeys and a three-bay rectangular plan. The building has been altered to accommodate shops on the ground floor and is constructed from tooled snecked sandstone rubble with droved dressings, complemented by long and short quoins.

The northwest elevation, which is the principal front, is asymmetrical. It includes a replacement central glazed door with a letterbox fanlight for number 19, and a glazed door with a letterbox fanlight for number 21 to the right. This door is accompanied by a large two-pane window in the outer bay, which has a painted timber sign above it. To the outer left, there is another large two-pane window with a similar painted timber sign. The first floor features regular fenestration.

The southwest and northeast elevations are obscured by the adjoining terrace, while the southeast elevation was not visible in 1997. The ground floor has large pane replaced fenestration, and the first floor is fitted with 16-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is red pantiled with a slate easing course, featuring a terracotta ridge and a stone skew to the right. Additionally, there are cast iron rainwater goods with a decorative hopper on the outer right and a coped polished red sandstone gablehead stack with circular cans to the right.

The interior was not seen in 1997.
