Description
The Market on Market Street in Tain is a single-storey building from the mid-19th century, featuring an arcaded design. It is set back from the street with a courtyard in front. Originally, the structure had six central elliptical arches, with similar arches and one door in each of the wider first and ninth bays. At the north end, there is warehousing with a loft that takes advantage of the slope of the land. The building is constructed from squared rubble blocks with ashlar voussoirs, and it has a simple coved eaves cornice and a slate roof. Two of the arcades remain to be restored as of 1982.
