Description

The building is a slaughterhouse located on Shore Road in Tain, designed by Andrew Maitland around 1875. It features a gabled rectangular plan with castellated Tudor detailing. The exterior is constructed from stugged squared and snecked stone, with ashlar dressings and harled sides, and has chamfered arrises around the openings.

On the north elevation facing Shore Road, there is a tall, staggered gable that presents to the street, complete with a corbel table at the top of the wall. The central carriage entrance at ground level is accentuated by an advanced panel, and above it is a louvred loft door set within a pediment, topped with a ball finial at the apex. The lower bays on either side are blank and feature pilaster quoins that support corbelled panelled dies with cushion bases, also topped with ball finials. To the right, there is a screen wall with a corbel course at the wallhead, which includes a blocked arrowslit detail and a terminating pilaster with a corbelled square die and pyramidal cap.

The gablet skews are coped, with gablet skewputts at the centre panel, and the roof is covered with grey slates.
