Description
5 Tower Street in Tain is a mid to late 18th century house that stands two storeys high with an attic and features three bays. The building has a central door and an irregular arrangement of windows. The exterior is rendered and lined to resemble ashlar, with chamfered dressed stone margins around the central doorway and a small ground floor window to the right.
The windows on the ground and first floors to the left (east) were enlarged around 1830 to 1840 and now have 16-pane sash designs. The house has two leaf panelled doors and crowsteps on the east gable, which includes the initials IM RF on the street skewputt. The end stacks were renewed around the same time, and there is an early 20th century box dormer. The roof is slate with a stone ridge.
