Description
The Stable and Cart House Range at Tan-yr-Ogof Farm is a two-storey rectangular building constructed from local limestone rubble, featuring limestone dressings. It has a corbelled-out, un-battlemented parapet that is broken on the west side, and is topped with a modern mono-pitch tiled roof. The long sides of the building have tall stable entrances with Tudor-arched heads and pegged, chamfered doorcases that include small-pane overlights. There are Tudor-arched windows on the upper floors at both ends, which have modern glazing. At the north end, there is an early 20th-century rectangular loading bay with boarded doors. The northwest corner features a bartizan with a sham-machicolated upper stage. The long west side has an upper Tudor-arched loading bay with a recessed door.
To the east, forming an L shape with the stable block, are two cart-house additions that are stepped down in two sections. These additions are built from local rubble and have slate roofs with tiled ridges and later brick gable parapets. The principal section on the left has large Tudor-arched entrances on both sides, with 19th-century boarded double doors. The right-hand section, which was formerly a twin-bay cart shed, has been reduced in size with post-war brick on the left side, and its rear roof pitch is covered with corrugated asbestos.
The primary block features a wide Tudor-arched cart entrance, which is now contained within the later cart-house but was originally external, and has a part-cobbled floor.
