Description
The cow-shed at Cefn-Coed Mawr is a long, single-storey structure built from whitewashed rubble, featuring an integral lofted stable at the eastern end, which is the downslope side. It has a slate roof with slated barges. The front of the building consists of eight bays, with the two right-hand bays being later additions that have a lower roofline.
On the left side, there are seven doorways with cambered stone voussoired heads and planked doors, two of which on the right are divided. The second and fourth doorways from the left have been blocked and replaced with 6-pane windows. There is also a 6-pane window on the right, with a similar head design. The left end of the building is made of rubble and features a 2-light gable window with cast iron latticed glazing, matching the head style of the other windows. The right end has been modified and includes small rubble pig-sties set back to the right.
To the rear of the cow-shed, there are extensive 20th-century farm buildings. The roof, dating from the late 19th century, is a collarbeam design supported by iron cramps, and there is a loft above the stable.
