Description
The barn range at Cefn-Coed Mawr is a whitewashed rubble structure situated on a sloping site, dating from the 19th century. It features a slate roof with wooden soffits and slated barges. The central entrance to the barn is low, with a brick cambered head and paired planked doors that have a chamfered central dividing post. To the left, there is a similar cart-doorway that has been blocked and fitted with an inserted boarded door and a 6-pane window. On the right, there is a high barn door with a similar head and paired planked doors, which are divided to the left and have a chamfered vertical post. The base of the barn is massively battered, indicating earlier foundations, while the right end has been partly rebuilt in brick. The left end features a flight of stone steps leading to a divided planked loft door with a timber lintel. There is also a small added concrete-block structure to the right, along with various 20th-century rear extensions.
An unusual feature of this barn is the arrangement of two threshing-floors on different levels, with cobbles still intact on the upper floor. The opposing barn doors serve as the front entrance. The barn has a late 19th-century collar-beam roof supported by iron cramps, and there is a loft over the cart-house.
