Description

The Forge is a blacksmith's shop with an attached cottage on the left. It is built from rubble with timber bargeboards on the smithy. The cottage features broad chimney stacks, with one gable rendered on the right and the other made of brick, which is shared with the adjoining house to the west. The smithy has a brick gable stack.

The smithy has a single-storey, five-bay front, with three 4-light windows on the left that have cast iron latticed glazing and cambered stone voussoired heads, while the right window has a brick head. The doorway is offset to the right, featuring a similar head and a stable-type planked door. The window to the right matches the others but has a thicker vertical dividing member. All windows have concrete sills. There is an attached lower shed to the right made of rubble, with a planked door and a timber lintel, as well as an inserted 9-pane window in the gable. A large 20th-century extension is located at the rear.

The cottage has a three-bay, two-storey front that is offset to the right. It features four-pane sash windows on the ground floor with cambered stone voussoired heads, and a central doorway with a 20th-century door and a cemented architrave. The upper floor has narrow 4-pane pivoted windows with timber lintels and slate sills. The rear wing includes a rendered gable stack, with 20th-century windows and doors, and a 20th-century extension beyond.
