Description
This building is a three-storey hotel located at 1-9 Monteith Place in Glasgow. It is the only remaining part of what was once an elegant terrace, likely designed by David Hamilton in 1812, with most of the construction taking place between 1818 and 1840 under a modified design that still involved Hamilton. The hotel features a plain late Georgian façade with five bays and a central door, made of polished ashlar stone with a channelled ground floor. The first-floor windows are corniced, and the doorway has a cornice supported by pendant-like brackets. A similar opening on the three-bay flank has been converted into a window. The glazing consists of two-pane windows at the ground level with top louvres, and four-pane windows above with casements. There are plain horizontal bands above the ground floor, a main entablature, and a shallow-pitched slate roof. At the rear, there is a low range with a triple-arched front facing Monteith Place, which is mostly blind except for a single doorway.
