Calton New Parish Church, Bain Square, Glasgow

Calton New Parish Church, located in Bain Square, Glasgow, was designed by James Wylson and built between 1836 and 1837 as St Luke's Established Church, serving as the parish church of West Calton. The church was gutted by fire in 1924, and the upper walls and interior were reconstructed in 1925-1926 by J M Munro and Son. The church features a classical facade facing Bain Square, constructed of painted ashlar, with a shallow gabled center that includes a door set in an arched panel framed by giant pilasters, which are all thinly proportioned. The tall outer windows are round-headed, and the main wall is channelled to cill level. The flanks of the church are built of rubble and are two stories high, and there is a shallow apse at the rear.
