Hall, 35 East Campbell Street, Glasgow

The Lodging House Mission, located at 29 East Campbell Street in Glasgow, was designed by Haig and Low and built between 1863 and 1864, with interior alterations made by Wylie Wright and Wylie in 1932-1933. This substantial two-storey, five-bay United Presbyterian church, which replaced an earlier building from 1792, is constructed in the Italian Palazzo Cinquecento style with some neo-Greek details. The exterior is made of buff sandstone ashlar. The outer bays are slightly advanced and feature giant Roman Doric pilasters, while the central bays have plain pilaster strips. The ground floor includes recessed round-arched triple doorways, each flanked by square Tuscan columns and featuring timber panelled two-leaf doors. A horizontal string course runs behind the giant order. The first floor has round-arched and corniced windows, and above, there is a deep entablature with a dentiled cornice and a balustraded parapet.

Inside, a floor was added in 1936 at the balcony level. The coombed ceiling showcases elaborate moulded plasterwork details and ceiling roses. Slender cast-iron columns with foliate capitals are positioned between the windows.

To the right (north) is a former vestry, hall, or schoolroom, which is a two-storey, three-bay structure that follows the palazzo style. It is constructed of lino-stoned ashlar and features bipartite windows in the central bay, with cast iron railings at the ground floor windows. The first floor has round-arched windows, and there is a moulded cornice with a blocking course above that has a raised central section and a pair of octagonal chimney cans.

The building retains a traditional glazing pattern and timber framed windows throughout, some of which have decorative panels and coloured margins. It also features cast iron rainwater goods.
