Description
St James' Primary School, built around 1895 by Thomson and Sandilands, is a board school located on a street corner site in Glasgow. It is a tall three-storey building with a symmetrical front facing Green Street, featuring three bays on either side of an advanced central bay. The exterior is made of stone-cleaned snecked red Dumfriesshire ashlar with polished dressings, flat ornamentation, and Renaissance detailing around the first-floor openings. There is a raised panel above the central entrance, and the original glazing pattern contributes to its unique design. The entrances are located in deeply recessed bays on the shorter sides of the building. At the rear, there is a large central wing that is semi-polygonal in shape. The school has individual slate roofs with red-tile ridging. Additionally, there is a two-storey janitor's lodge at the southeast corner of the playground, which has a compact layout and some patches of render on the stonework. The property is enclosed by decorative wrought-iron gates and railings, with low stone coping.
