Description

The Nelson Monument, located in Glasgow Green, Glasgow, was designed by David Hamilton and completed in 1806. It is said to be the first monument in the UK dedicated to commemorating Horatio Nelson's victories, particularly the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The monument is a giant obelisk that stands 144 feet high, resting on a square plinth and surrounded by cast-iron railings. It is constructed of polished ashlar.
