Description
39 Greendyke Street in Glasgow is a four-storey and attic building designed by architects Honeyman and Keppie in 1890. Originally a hide, skin, and tallow market, it was converted into flats in 2000, which included a modern addition to the rear. The building features a symmetrical seven-bay façade made of polished red ashlar with brick flanks and a brick rear.
On the ground floor, there is a wide vehicle entrance at the center, and in the penultimate bays, there are roll-moulded double-leaf doors topped with an aedicular pediment. The other ground-floor bays have wide bipartite windows, with sash and case designs that include small-pane upper sashes and two-pane lower sashes. To the extreme right, there is an altered shop front with lowered windows.
The first floor has thermal windows with single lights in the penultimate bays, while the second and third floors feature tripartite windows, except for single lights in the penultimate bays. All windows are sash and case with small-pane glazing. There is a band course between the floors, an eaves cornice, and a small pediment above the central bay. The building has a deep plain parapet, with skews and stacks flanking the center bay. The roof was re-slated during the conversion to flats in 2000.
