Description
Maclennan Arch is a triumphal archway that was relocated to its current position in Glasgow Green between 1991 and 1992. It is made up of fragments salvaged from the Glasgow Assembly Rooms, designed by Robert and James Adam, which were built between 1792 and 1796 and demolished around 1890. The fragments were initially re-assembled in 1894 under the guidance of John Carrick, the city architect, and were first placed in Jail Square. In 1922, the arch was moved to Glasgow Green, where it served as a focal point at the end of Charlotte Street. Due to tilting, it was dismantled, and during this process, it was relocated to its present site, directly opposite William Stark's Courthouse. One side of the arch features Ionic columns, while the other side has pilasters.
