Description

Office of Public Works, 1905. Terrace of tenements at

corner of Saltmarket and Jocelyn Square, shops to ground.

4 storeys, polished red sandstone. 5-bay elevation to

Jocelyn Square, 11-bay to Saltmarket, bowed bay to corner.

JOCELYN SQUARE ELEVATION: canted full-height oriels to

outer bays rising to deep parapets. Inner 3 bays with

single light windows, mutuled cornice over 1st, central

window aedicular to 2nd. All sash and case with plate

glass. 2-pane glazing. Eaves cornice, tall, corniced,

ashlar stacks to wallhead.

SALTMARKET ELEVATION: similarly detailed with canted

oriels to outer bays and to centre 2 bays.

CORNER BAY: bowed oriel from 1st, deep octagonal parapet

over 3rd with cartouches to each face divided by

pilasters. Lead ogee dome.

Slate roofs, tall axial and wall head stacks. Rear

elevation brick.
