Description

Style of David Hamilton. Built circa 1820. Classical country house now incorporated within city. 2 storeys, 3 bays with Greek revival ornament including fluted Doric porch, simplified acroteria to ground floor window pediments. Dry-dashed front (N) elevation has variety of planes, with centre bay shallow advanced, prominent giant angle pilasters each with plain recessed panel; painted ashlar architraves and porch (E flank also dry-dashed; remainder ashlar-faced). Main cornice unpainted, and blocking course, block pediments over centre and ends. Sash windows with 4-pane glazing pattern. End stacks now cut down; piended shallow-pitched slate roof enclosed by blocking course. Deeply recessed and pedimented single storey single bay flanking wing to W, corresponding wing to E replaced by large modern hall. Stair window (re-glazed early 20th century) central on rear wall, unfortunate modern additions and brick-walled court also at rear.

INTERIOR: much altered, but some original cornice plasterwork, more probably survives behind suspended ceilings; cantilevered stone stair with decorative cast-iron balusters.
