Description

Thomas S Tait and Lancelot Hugh Ross 1938 for Empire Exhibition. Large block containing mainly halls, principally 4 ranges about an open square courtyard, W front with tall main range having series of vertically-proportioned and horizontally-glazed huge rectangular openings separated by plain columns, 3 doors and wide staircase at centre, flat-roofed low ranges at either end are set forward, main wall shallow recessed above, with flagpoles; other courtyard ranges slightly lower, large exit central on E wall. Built of square concrete blocks, some details coloured tiles, roofs mostly profile sheeting, extensive series of large rooflights.

Some decorative wrought-iron including lamp brackets at main staircase.
