Description
44 Hamilton Avenue is a large Scots baronial villa built in the late 19th century, featuring two storeys and a prominent three-storey square tower at the center of the west entrance front. The tower is adorned with bartizans and has a steep French roof topped with iron cresting. The entrance is highlighted by an elaborate pilastered doorcase, while the ground floor has canted and crenellated windows on either side. The exterior is constructed from stugged and snecked red ashlar with polished dressings, and the windows are mainly sash style, complemented by green slate roofs. A rear wing faces Hamilton Avenue. The property is accessed through moulded ball-finialed gatepiers, which support good wrought-iron gates featuring art nouveau ornamentation.
