Description

Craigendarroch House is a striking Scots Baronial villa built in 1869, with additions from the 1920s. The building is two stories with an attic and was originally designed in an L-shape. It features a prominent four-stage square entrance tower with a corbelled and balustered design, along with a conical-roofed turret located in the re-entrant angle to the south, which was added in the 1920s. There are also single-storey and attic extensions to the north from the same period. The exterior is constructed of pink and grey coursed granite on the south side, while the north side is made of rubble. The tower is finished with coursed and snecked granite, and the roof includes dormers, some of which have piended roofs.

On the south elevation, the principal entrance is near the center of the tower, featuring a segmental arched entrance at ground level. To the right, there is an advanced gabled bay with a canted bay window on the ground floor, and to the left, a recessed single bay with a conical-roofed turret at the corner.

The windows are predominantly timber sash and case, with plate glass. The tower has a decorative glazing pattern consisting of eight panes over two panes. The roof is finished with grey slate, and there are gable stacks.

Inside, the original floorplan is largely intact and features well-detailed elements, including an outstanding timber staircase with oak panelling and shaped balusters, square newels topped with urn finials, and picture-rail height oak panelling in the hall. The public rooms boast decorative cornicing, and there are four-panelled timber doors throughout.

The boundary wall is made of high granite rubble with rubble coping on the west side.
