Description

42 Sherbrooke Avenue in Glasgow is a large two-storey villa designed by J MacKellar in 1902, featuring Renaissance details and asymmetrical elevations. The building is constructed from stugged red ashlar with polished dressings and showcases a variety of glazing patterns, including leaded panels, under slate roofs. The entrance elevation includes outer gables, with the left gable being advanced and featuring a low wide four-light window at ground level. There is a square turreted bay in the re-entrant angle that shares the same plane and has an open-worked balustrade. A wide depressed-arched and balustraded open porch connects to a two-storey canted window on the right. The villa also has kneeler skewputts and tall stacks with projecting caps.

At the corner of Sherbrooke and Sutherland Avenues, there are a pair of gatepiers that are channelled, square, and topped with pyramidal caps, along with rubble-built boundary walls.
