6 Wester Coates Gardens, Edinburgh

6 Wester Coates Gardens in Edinburgh is a two-storey, three-bay villa designed by Archibald MacPherson in 1906, showcasing a Freestyle architectural style. The building is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone, featuring long and short surrounds, with overhanging eaves, decorative bargeboards, and half-timbering on the gables.

The front elevation includes an advanced gabled bay on the right, which has a canted mullioned and transomed window with a parapet at the ground level, and a tripartite window above it on the first floor. To the left, there is a recessed panelled entrance door accompanied by a small bipartite window, leading to a single-storey porch that has a parapet and is stepped and raised at the centre. The left bay at ground level features a mullioned and transomed bipartite window, while above, there is a bipartite window with swept-roofed gabled dormers. The east side elevation has a piend-roofed single-storey addition at the rear, and the west side elevation features a canted bay with a bipartite window above, along with a later addition towards the rear.

The villa is fitted with small-paned timber sash and case glazing and has a grey slate roof. It includes a tall, banded stack located between the left-hand and central bays, as well as banded wallhead stacks on the east side elevation and squat cylindrical chimney cans. The cast-iron rainwater goods add to the building's character.

Surrounding the property are boundary walls made of coped squared and snecked sandstone, complemented by railings in the lowered sections.
