Helenslea, 178 Nithsdale Road, Pollokshields, Glasgow

Helenslea is a later 19th century, two-storey, three-bay villa located at 178 Nithsdale Road in Pollokshields, Glasgow. The villa features a low addition to the left, built around 1900, which has a wide canted front with a mullioned and transomed window that includes figurative leaded glass panels. The exterior is finished in stone-cleaned polished ashlar with moulded details. The original house showcases shafted jambs and mullions with foliated capitals, while the windows are topped with stilted flat-arched heads. The painted centre doorcase is complemented by a canted full-height window to the left and a pointed roof above. The villa has end stacks and slated roofs. There is a low boundary wall along the street, with shaped painted ashlar gatepiers and modern ironwork including gates, an overthrow, and railings, which protect the leaded windows of the addition.
