Ellisland, 200 Nithsdale Road, Pollokshields, Glasgow

Ellisland is a single-storey villa located at 200 Nithsdale Road in Pollokshields, Glasgow, designed by Alexander Thomson in 1871. This villa features a symmetrical front, which is unusual for Thomson's style at this time. The design includes a recessed central porch supported by a pair of Egyptian columns with painted details, and pilastraded three-light windows on either side. The roof has a shallow pitch and is slated, with deep eaves that have decorative cresting. The original doorway and glazing remain intact, and the building is constructed from snecked and stugged ashlar with polished dressings and unmargined openings. There are lamp brackets at the entrance, and the villa has three bays on its flanks, a rooflight above the hall, and end stacks topped with lotus flower chimney cans.

The interior of the villa has been altered. The property is also complemented by a low boundary wall and distinctive gatepiers that feature Egypto-Greek detailing, similar to those found at Thomson's Castlehill nearby.
