Castlehill, 202 Nithsdale Road, Pollokshields, Glasgow

Castlehill is a villa located at 202 Nithsdale Road in Pollokshields, Glasgow, designed by Alexander Thomson (A and G Thomson) in 1870. This 'Thomsonesque' building features asymmetrical elevations and consists of one and two storeys. It has shallow-pitched, broad-eaved gabled roofs that are slated and supported by plain timber trusses. The exterior is made of snecked ashlar with polished dressings, and some windows are pilastraded with original glazing. The two-storey centre has an L-plan front with the gable on the right, and there are single-storey ranges on either side. A doorway is recessed to the right in a narrow link with a billiards room that has five lights in a clasping low range to the left. There is a low boundary wall along the street, and distinctive gatepiers with Egypto-Greek detailing, similar to those at Thomson's Ellisland, are located nearby.
