Description
The Adam Smith Heritage Centre, located at 1 Adam Smith Close in Kirkcaldy, is an 18th-century building that may include some earlier materials. It is a three-storey structure with a piend roof, covered in pantiles, and built from rubble with some raised ashlar surrounds and quoins.
On the south elevation, there is a slightly lower adjoining building (not included in this listing) to the left, with its ground floor obscured. To the right, there are two large windows at the first floor and four irregular openings near the roof eaves at the second floor. The east elevation, facing Adam Smith's Close, features a deep-set door to the left of centre at ground level, with a blank area above and high boundary walls of Adam Smith's Close on both the outer right and left.
The west elevation has a window in the bay to the right at the first floor and another in the centre at the second floor, with a high boundary wall on the outer left. The north elevation only shows the second floor, where four windows close to the eaves are visible, but all openings are blocked. The roof is covered with red pantiles and has later rooflights on all pitches, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
