Lodge, Loretto School, Musselburgh

The lodge at Loretto School in Musselburgh is an early 19th century, single-storey structure with a symmetrical design and bowed ends. Each end features a central window, although the north end window is blocked. The lodge has an advanced centre bay that includes a cornice and a blocking course, with a panel above a segmental arch that has an impost mould, containing a low window that has replaced a door. The front is made of ashlar, while the sides are constructed from coursed rubble, with raised margins around the windows. The roof is piended and covered with slate, and there is a central chimney stack that is harled. The lodge is flanked by early 19th century cylindrical piers topped with Roman Doric capitals and conical drums, which support scrolled wrought-iron finials above panelled abaci.
