Description

Later 19th century. Single storey L-plan cottage sited on roadside at head of walled garden (former orchard). Red sandstone, coursed to S elevation, rubble sides and rear stugged ashlar dressings.

S ELEVATION: 3-bay. Hoodmoulded door at centre, flanked by windows; small-pane fanlight. Blank gabled return elevations.

Rear wing comprised of 1 bay with window (by re-entrant angle) and roof regrettably raised to mansard attic, and lower piend roofed outbuilding to N, with doorway, and later openings inserted.

Plate glass and 4-pane glazing patterns to sash and case windows. Grey slates. Crowstepped gables with beak skewputts. Paired, rendered and lined diamond end stacks. Skylights.

RETAINING WALLS, GATEPIERS: rubble retaining walls gablet-coped, continuous with those of Seton policies to E and W, and enclosing walled garden at N, to S of Seton House. Low, semi-circular coped wall retaining small front garden by roadside. Tall square ashlar gatepiers flanking cottage to right.
