Description
Seton West Mains is a later 19th-century farmhouse that stands two stories tall and features three bays, along with a lower two-story service wing connected at the southeast corner to a farm steading. The building is constructed from squared and tooled grey sandstone, accented with ashlar dressings, a base, and a band course, as well as raised quoins.
On the northeast elevation, the three symmetrical bays are grouped towards the center, featuring an ashlar classical porch with pilasters and a cornice. The porch includes a panelled door and narrow windows on the returns. Flanking the porch are stone mullioned tripartite windows with bracketed cills, and there is a window in each bay on the first floor.
The southeast elevation has a stair window at the center, with a small bathroom window above and a pantry light below. Each outer bay has a window on both floors, with a bipartite window in the outer right bay at ground level. A lean-to greenhouse addition is located at the center.
The southwest elevation is two bays wide, with a window in each bay on both floors.
The service wing, attached to the east elevation on the south side, has two bays on the north side with a window on each floor, featuring pedimented dormerheads that break the eaves on the first floor. The rear of the service wing is blank.
The farmhouse features plate glass glazing in sash and case windows, rope-moulded cast-iron gutters with decorative brackets, and corniced ashlar stacks. The roofs are covered with grey slate and have a piend design.
Surrounding the property are rubble walls that enclose the garden area adjacent to the steading to the south of the farmhouse, with a terraced lawn to the north.
