Gowanhill, Gowanhill Farm Road, Edinburgh

Gowanhill is an earlier 19th century farmhouse that stands two stories tall and has a rectangular plan. The building is constructed of whitewashed rubble with sandstone margins.

On the north elevation, there are three bays, featuring a lean-to cement-rendered porch at the center. A door is located in the right return, while a small window in the left return marks the original doorway. Flanking windows are present at the ground level, and the first floor has windows that are symmetrically arranged.

The south elevation is asymmetrical, with a small window at the center ground, a window and boarded door at the outer right, and a window to the outer left. There is a single window at the first floor to the right of center. An attached steading is located at the west corner and extends in an L-plan to the west and south of the house.

On the east elevation, there is a window at the outer right of the gable. The farmhouse features 12-pane sash and case windows as well as 4-pane sash and case windows. It has a steep grey slate gabled roof, with ashlar coping to the skews, a stone ridge, and coped apex stacks, one of which is truncated and overgrown. The building also has a thackstane.
